ABOUT GUATEMALA FILM CONNECTIONS

Local knowledge. International production standards.

Guatemala Film Connections was created to give international filmmakers a clear, reliable point of entry into Guatemala.

After more than 15 years working in the film and audiovisual industry, founder Pamela Franco recognized a recurring challenge: international productions were interested in filming in Guatemala, but often did not know where to begin, who to contact, how to navigate permits, or how to assemble the right local production team.

Without a centralized film commission or a clearly established production pathway, many projects considering Guatemala have historically chosen to move to Mexico or other countries where the production infrastructure is easier to navigate.

Guatemala Film Connections was created to help bridge that gap.

Our goal is simple: to help international productions understand what is possible in Guatemala and provide the local knowledge, crew, locations, logistics and production support necessaryto make it happen.

Since then, we have supported international film, television, documentary and commercial projects of different sizes, from small traveling crews to larger productions requiring extensive local coordination.

OUR MISSION

We want Guatemala to become an easier and more attractive destination for international production.

Our work goes beyond servicing individual projects. We continue participating in initiatives designed to introduce Guatemala to international filmmakers and strengthen the country’s production infrastructure.

Guatemala Film Connections has collaborated with AGEXPORT & INGUAT on familiarization initiatives that have brought international location professionals to Guatemala to experience firsthand the extraordinary diversity of locations the country offers.

We also continue working toward clearer production pathways and stronger communication with institutions, with the long-term goal of making permits and production procedures more efficient, predictable and accessible to international companies.

The vision is to help establish clear production channels, defined guidelines and trusted local connections so that filmmakers can come to Guatemala knowing where to begin and how to move their projects forward.

“Guatemala has extraordinary locations and extraordinary people. What has often been missing is a clear bridge between international productions and everything the country has to offer. Guatemala Film Connections was created to be that bridge.”

THE GUATEMALAN CREW

One of the comments we hear most consistently from visiting productions is how strongly the Guatemalan crew exceeds their expectations.

International filmmakers repeatedly recognize not only the professionalism and talent of local technicians and artists, but also something more difficult to quantify: the attitude with which Guatemalan crews approach their work.

There is a genuine willingness to collaborate, find solutions and give everything to the project.

We believe this combination of professional skill, flexibility, enthusiasm and heart is one of Guatemala’s greatest production assets.

For us, bringing international productions to Guatemala is also an opportunity to create employment, strengthen local experience and give Guatemalan professionals greater exposure within the international film industry.

BUILDING GUATEMALA AS A FILM DESTINATION

Guatemala offers a remarkable concentration of cinematic environments within a relatively small territory — colonial cities, modern urban landscapes, volcanoes, lakes, tropical coastline, highlands, cloud forest, caves and dense jungle.

But extraordinary locations alone are not enough.

A successful filming destination also requires experienced crews, reliable vendors, accessible information, institutional cooperation and clear processes.

Guatemala Film Connections is committed to continuing to participate in initiatives that strengthen these areas and help position Guatemala as a competitive international filming destination.

Our objective is not simply to bring one production to Guatemala.

It is to help open the door for the productions that come after it.
